Singapore National Climbing Standards Sport Climbing Level 1 (SCL1)
Why Attend SCL1 Course?
This is a passport for you to climb in any climbing gym in Singapore. If you are not SCL1 certified, you will need to pay extra (over and above the published rates) to engage a belayer from the climbing gym to belay you during your climb.

Pre-requisite At least 13 years of age
Course Duration: 2 sessions of 3.5 hours each Course Capacity: Minimum 5 / Maximum 10 pax Course Fee : S$65 per person To Qualify As A SCL1 Climber: Participants will be required to demonstrate the following: 1. Correct harness usage 2. Correct tie-in technique using the figure-of-8 knot 3. Correct belay technique using a friction device 4. Correct use of climbing calls 5. Perform pre-climb checks Award: Singapore National Climbing Standards (SNCS) Sport Climbing Course Level 1 certification (eligible to proceed to Sport Climbing Course Level 2). Learn Within The Course:
You will be taught on follow: 1. Introduction to the Sport of Climbing: - Development of climbing in Singapore - Concept of climbing - Basic wall configuration - corners, overhangs, slabs, roof 2. Introduction of Climbing Equipment - Climbing Ropes - Harness - Karabiner - Belay devices - (Fig.8 and Tubular) - Climbing shoes - Chalk - Quickdraws (Runners), Sling/Tape (This equipment will only be used for sport climbing level 2) 3. Rope Work Tie-in Figure of Eight thread-through Knot (usage, limitation, dressing) 4. Belaying On Top-rope Climbing - Technique (5 steps belay) using friction/belay devices - Pre-climb buddy checks - Climbing commands - Spotting - Safety considerations - pendulums swing, falling on other people, rope placement 5. Basic Climbing Technique: -Use of handholds - pinch, grip, underhand, side pull, sloper, pocket -Use of footholds - edging, smearing |
