Why climb? Rock climbing is arguably one of the best exercises around as it works every muscle in the body, including the brain (Bouchard, 2011). More importantly climbing develops strength, flexibility and motor skills on balance, coordination, etc.
“Climbing builds pathways in the brain that teach the muscles and brain to work together and especially how to use both sides of the body at the same time. When children climb, their eyes and brain work together to learn where to grab and hold, where to place knees and feet, important skills for developing spatial awareness skills.” (Pfeiffer, 2008) |
Climbing is used for personal development on planning, emotion control, manage of failure, handle of fear, communication, focusing etc. These are big words by it but inter-related. Planning before climb will ensure the safe and succeeding the climb. I’ve seen climber gets very upset/angry while do been able to succeeding a climb. However, if the climber is able to control the emotion and manage the failure, you would see that he/she can climb better. He/she will need to be persistence (Olsson, 2011) on trying again and again to succeed a high grade that he/she is capable of. In the process of practice the climber would need to manage failure and communicate to other to find out more information on technique and self-finding. This will enhance of handling the fear of unknown/high/failure. Over all the experience will enhance the character to build a better personality.
